Dark mode may be good for your phone’s battery but not necessarily for your eyes

Dark mode is probably one of the most popular features in the modern user interface. From apps to operating systems, Apple to Google, smartphones to laptops, many of the products we use today have some type of dark mode integrated into the user interface. Nepali apps likes e-sewa, Hamro Patro etc are also hugely influenced by dark mode.

Advantages of using dark mode
The main advantage of dark mode is to reduce battery usage in OLED and AMOLED display panels. In OLED display every pixel is individually lit. So in a light mode every individual pixel are turned on resulting the high usage of battery. But  in case of dark mode, dark pixel are turned on which reduce the battery usage .In addition  the dark mode also reduce emission of the most dangerous light I. e blue light and reduces the eyes strain.

Why you shouldn’t use dark mode
The clarity of our vision depends on how much light is entering in our eyes. Lots of light enter into our eyes while we use light mode on our PC's and mobiles. The pupil get contracted that leads the formation of clearer and sharper image on retina.

On the other hand, when we use dark mode less light enters our eyes, which results in the pupils being dilated that leads the formation of a blurry images . Such blurry image gives more strain and pressure to eyes while reading.

The blog site Techquila explains, is the way light scatters. When we use light characters on a dark background, light scatters around the characters making it difficult to read. But when we use light mode or dark characters on a light background, the characters are sharper and hence there is no strain while reading.

Light mode at day time pertains to individual mood. Android Authority quoting a research by Harvard says that exposure to Blue light during the day can uplift the mood. The report also quotes American Association of Ophthalmology, which says that a healthy exposure to Blue light can help in reducing nearsightedness in children.
